Short description
Mattress sewing includes the quilting, sewing and edge-finishing operations used to manufacture different areas of a mattress, from mattress plates and borders to handles, zips and tape edges.
Mattress sewing operations

The AMANN application recommendations distinguish six main areas:
- Quilting mattress plates
- Serging mattress plates and borders
- Border quilting and sewing
- Carrying grips and handles
- Zip insertion
- Tape edging

Quilting mattress plates
Mattress plates can be quilted using different stitch configurations.
The application recommendations include:
- 401 multi-needle chainstitch
- 301 lockstitch with Zeppelin
- 301 lockstitch with bobbin
- 301 lockstitch for multi-directional sewing
Depending on the sewing system, the needle thread is combined with a looper, bobbin or Zeppelin thread.
Serging mattress plates and borders

The application recommendations include:
- 401 chainstitch
- 401 + 504 overlockstitch

Needle and looper threads are used for this operation.
Carrying grips and handles
Mattress carrying grips and handles require dedicated sewing operations.
The application recommendations include:
- 301 lockstitch
- 504 overlockstitch
Depending on the stitch type, needle thread is combined with either bobbin thread or looper thread.
Tape edging
Tape edging is one of the final sewing operations around the mattress edge.
The application recommendations include:
- 401 chainstitch
- 301 lockstitch
