Intro
Meta-aramid (M-AR) is a high-performance aromatic polyamide fibre characterised by inherent flame resistance, self-extinguishing and non-melting behaviour. It provides good resistance to acids, alkalis, fungi and bacteria and can withstand continuous temperatures of approximately 220°C, making it particularly suitable for heat- and flame-protective textile applications.
Properties
- Modified polyamide (aromatic)
- Flame-retardant, self-extinguishing, non-melting
- Good resistance to acids and alkalis
- High resistance to fungi and bacteria
- Good abrasion resistance
Temperatures
- Continuous temperature resistance up to approx. 220°C
- Decomposition temperature: approx. 370°C

FAQ
-
Meta-aramid fibres are manufactured by polycondensation and spun using a dry spinning process.
-
Meta-aramid is a modified aromatic polyamide. Its chemical structure gives it high thermal and flame-resistant properties.
-
Yes. Meta-aramid fibres are inherently flame-retardant, self-extinguishing and non-melting.
-
No. Meta-aramid does not melt. At high temperatures it decomposes rather than forming molten droplets.
-
Meta-aramid provides continuous temperature resistance up to approximately 220°C. The decomposition temperature is around 370°C.
-
Meta-aramid shows good resistance to acids and alkalis, making it suitable for chemically demanding environments.
-
Yes. It offers high resistance to fungi and bacteria.
-
Meta-aramid has good abrasion resistance, supporting durability in protective applications.
-
Meta-aramid threads are commonly used in flame-protective clothing, heat-resistant workwear, firefighter garments and other technical safety applications.
-
Because it combines flame resistance, non-melting behaviour, thermal stability and chemical resistance, making it ideal for safety-critical textiles.
